Welcome to P150

We are thrilled you have joined this vibrant community of philanthropic advisors dedicated to moving more money, more impactfully, towards efforts that can change the world.

We put together this guide as a simple way to make the most of your membership and a way to answer many of the most frequently asked questions. Of course, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to the team at info@p150.org.

Overview of your membership

As part of P150, you have access to:

  1. Accomplished Peers, including 350 of the top philanthropy advisors in the world, who you can find through our member directory.

  2. Google Groups to share resources, ask the community for ideas, and engage in rich conversations about philanthropy.

  3. A funding opportunities database that aggregates and makes searchable all of the organizations that have been recommended by members of the community.

  4. Virtual events that range from deep dives into specific issue areas to common challenges advisors are tackling.

  5. In-person events including our annual member gathering and meet-ups at philanthropy conferences and in local communities.

We are guided by the following commitments:

At the heart of P150 lies a commitment to fostering an environment of trust, equity, and collaboration, where competition takes a backseat to collective progress. Our P150 community agreements serve as the foundation for this ethos:

  • CANDID, CONFIDENTIAL CONVERSATION. We have honest discourse, sharing our perspectives knowing that the specifics will not be shared beyond our group without permission.

  • GIVE SPACE, TAKE SPACE. We share our contributions while also actively creating space for others to be heard.

  • SHARE, DON’T SELL. We generously share ideas, opportunities, and lessons learned in the spirit of helping others. We do not sell products or our services.

  • BIAS TOWARD ACTION. We focus on translating our sharing and collaboration into action – in particular to our shared goal of moving more money towards impactful efforts.

We also agree to a baseline of engagement that helps foster a vibrant, mutually supportive community. We …

  1. STAY CURRENT: Complete a biannual survey to keep your info current and help shape the community.

  1. SHOW UP: Participate in at least three events across the year to build relationships, bring your expertise into the group (ex: virtual drop in, in person meetup, or convening)

  2. CONNECT: Respond to other P150 members who reach out (with full permission to say “thanks, but I can’t right now!”)

  3. CELEBRATE: Share back to the community when an ask or collaboration results in money moved or other impact!

Join the Conversation: Intro to our Google Group

Our Google Group is the primary place members share resources, source ideas, and are in ongoing conversation with each other. Think of this as a knowledge sharing, thought leadership platform to help us do our jobs better.

  • We have created sub-groups within the main Google Group for members who participate in our Women’s Leadership Group and/or our Single Shingles & Executive Directors of Small Foundations Group. If you would like to be added to either group, please email us at info@p150.org.

    • Sourcing requests for possible organizations to fund (ex: I’m looking for great criminal justice organizations working on policy in California). The more detailed, the better.

    • Posing questions you’re grappling with in your work or seeking thought-partnership on.

    • Any resources you find helpful or provocative. We love a conversation with rich back and forths or healthy debate.

    • Head to this link and click “New Conversation.” Write it just like an email and send off to the community.

    • You can also send an email directly to: philanthropy150@googlegroups.com from your own email account.

    • Don’t be shy, reply! Help members out if you have an org that meets their search criteria or have a resource or idea that would be helpful.

    • We strongly encourage you to “Reply All” whenever possible versus reaching out directly to a member. When going direct, the rest of the community misses out on your knowledge. (An exception is RSVPing to a specific event, which can be done directly).

  • According to our norms, this is a no sales zone. Given the amount of pitching we receive as advisors, this is a place where we are not pitching our services or on behalf of our affiliates. If you’re not sure, feel free to ask!

  • While we encourage folks to be transparent and open in the space, we understand that there are occasions where information is sensitive. Feel free to reach out to info@p150.org or Jody Giles (Jody.giles@gmail.com) as she frequently posts anonymously for members when the need arises!

Find People + Funding Opportunities

We have two main databases on the website — the funding opportunities hub and the member directory. Both leverage airtable to ensure you can sort and filter them to find that is right for you. On each page you’ll find additional directions, as well as some pre-sorted fields. But the main thing you need to know is that you can click “filter” and then add the criteria you want to sort for (specific issue areas, members who live in a certain geography, etc.

We have an active calendar of events happening every month — ranging from ongoing working groups about specific issue areas to in-person meet-ups in different communities. Head here to find gatherings that seem relevant to you (remember, we ask every member to join at least 3 across the year).

Learn + Collaborate

When you open the Google Group, on the left you can find membership settings and update your subscription to a Digest (which means you will get a single round-up of the emails from the day).
